” Benares is older than history, older than tradition, older even than legend and looks twice as old as all of them put together. “
– Mark Twain
Do you know what is Kashi?
The legend says, “Kashi is not a place, it is a state of mind.”
In the heart of ancient India lies the city of Kashi, also known as Varanasi or Benares. This city is revered as a sacred place, with a deep spiritual legacy that has captivated seekers, mystics, and pilgrims throughout history. Kashi is often referred to as the “Tower of Light,” emerging with celestial grace between the twin rivers of Varuna and Asi.
The spiritual essence of Kashi is profoundly intertwined with the worship of Lord Shiva, who is also known as Adiyogi or “first yogi”. According to ancient lore, over 15,000 years ago, Adiyogi imparted the wisdom of Yoga to his seven disciples, who then carried this knowledge in seven directions across the world. The essence of Yoga, as envisioned by Adiyogi, is to transcend physical and mental limitations, embodying the transformative power of this ancient practice. Thus, Kashi stands not only as a place of pilgrimage but as a living embodiment of the yogic pursuit of higher consciousness and spiritual awakening. It is here that ancient wisdom has been preserved and passed down through generations, making it a living testament to the profound depth of Indian spirituality. The city’s atmosphere is imbued with a sense of timelessness, offering a unique backdrop for those seeking both inner peace and a deeper connection to the divine.
At Kashi Yog Kuteer, we draw inspiration from the city’s sacred essence, channelling its spiritual energy into our yoga practices. Our studio stands as a tribute to Kashi’s rich heritage, providing a space where ancient traditions meet contemporary practices, guiding you on a journey of self-discovery and transformation.
